Homassasa Springs

At the end of February Blake and I took a trip home. Normally on our trips we hangout at the house of either the Russ or Santos family. This trip Mama Santos wanted to take us to Homosassa Springs, and I'm so glad she did. The springs of Florida were the tourist hot spots for more then 100 years, way before Disney World folks. It is amazing how millions of gallons of water pump out of these springs every hour. Nature is impressive. This is one of the best places to view manatees in Florida, but it did not beat out our encounter with manatees back here. At Homosassa Springs there is much more to see then just the water and manatees though, they also have trails you can walk with wildlife enclosures. They have mostly animals native to Florida, alligators sunning, flamingos grazing, panthers just chillin and loads of fish in the spring. But there are a few exotics as well like the hippo, that was cool. It was a nice day to enjoy the outdoors. And we ended the day with boiled peanuts and dinner at the Cotillion Southern Cafe. If you live in central Florida and have not visited either the Springs or the Catillion, you are missing out.
