EroJacks at Dania Beach

GOOD NEWS!!!!
The Russ's are again proud owners of an underwater camera case. You know what that means? Underwater pictures!!!

For the past two and a half months we have been on an ocean safari, scuba diving anywhere from 1-5 times a week. Till now we have been cameraless, thank goodness Blake had a birthday or we would not be able to share some of the cool things we see diving (well at least we think they are cool). We also want to share some of our new found dive sites. Starting with the EroJacks at Dania Beach.
This is by far one of my favorite dives, it is an artificial reef made up of huge concrete jacks (like the game)Maybe from far those jacks look dead, but get up close and they are full of life. These photos are from just one dive trip. On other dives we have seen nurse sharks, lobster, an octopus, and a sea turtle. And can we talk a little about that EEL? WOW was he a big one!!!! Blake got to see him swimming out in the open, the thing was about as thick around as Blake's thigh.

Dive Information

Location: J.U. Lloyd State Park or Dania Beach.

Parking: Park as close to the peer as possible.

Cost: $1.50 per hour, we get 2 hours.

Walk to the dive site: Walk to the left of the pier and down the beach. You will see a sign and chain-link fence that marks the enterence of the park. Keep walking about a quarter of a mile till you see two jacks up on the shore bank. Our first time to the EroJacks we did not see them till we were almost on top of them. Don't get discouraged.

Snorkel/back paddle to the dive site: Swim about 60+ yards out keeping in line with the jacks on the beach. I always feel like I am lined up perfectly and Blake does too, but we are about 30 feet apart from each other (he is always to my left). But Blake is the one to always finds them, so don't be afraid to disagree with your dive buddy.

Depth: No more than 20 feet, most of the time it is more like 10-15 feet.

Bottom time: Lot of variables go along with this but we have gone as long at 80 minutes.

Showers: Yes, there is one but far from where you want to park. They are located beach side, in the middle of the parking lot. It is pretty sandy all around the shower and can sometimes be kinda crowed.

Just follow the jacks and enjoy the sea life. Our first dive we did not get to the end (enjoying every little piece), but at the end starts another reef you can follow.

  1. Loved, love the reef pictures. I've been waiting to see them. Some of them looked like National Geographic. Wow. Post some more please.

    1. Thanks. We both take turns with the camera, but Blake is the main photographer.
